The Elliott County Extension Office will be accepting orters for Apple and Pear Rootstock starting December 7, 2020 to January 29, 2021. Rootstock orders will be avalible for pickup in mid-February. Limited quanities of each of the following rootstocks will be avalible:

*Apple M111 (3/16”) and (1/4”) - Malling-Merton 111 (MM.111): Produces trees 80 to 90% of standard that are moderately slow bearing with medium productivity. More drought tolerant, somewhat better anchored, and slightly more productive than other rootstocks, it is resistant to wooly aphid and has been an outstanding rootstock for Idared, spur-type Red Delicious, spur-type McIntosh, Jonathan and Rome Beauty. Best adapted clonal stock for survival in Kentucky, particularly on heavy soil. However, its large tree size is too large for most plantings (University of Kentucky, HO-82).

*Apple M7A (3/16”) and (1/4”)– Malling 7 (M.7, M. 7A, M.7 ELMA):  Produces trees 60 to 70% of standard. Performs best on deep, well-drained soil and is somewhat drought tolerant. While most trees on M.7 are self-supporting, staking for the first four to five years is suggested. M.7 should be used as a rootstock for Delicious and Idared on only the most favorable sites as it produces larger than desired trees. M.7 is prone to burr knots and suckers badly but is resistant to fire blight and crown rot. The virus-free clone of M.7 is M.7 EMLA; has exceptional winter hardiness (University of Kentucky, HO-82).

**Payments will be due at time of pickup. Cost per rootstock will be $2.00.
